Engaging with critical praxis as the primary theoretical modality, advanced theoretical and practical sessions, case studies, personal scenarios and group work will support the exploration of more challenging professional situations. A range of advanced techniques will become familiar including theoretical input and practice in the psychodynamics of parallel process, transference, countertransference and resistance. This unit will equip candidates to interrogate the system dynamics of their role and develop deeper critical contextual understanding.

Learning outcomes

1.

Apply understanding of critical praxis as core to supervisory practice;

Pedagogy

All teaching material pre-recorded. Students to engage with material before class. 22 hours face to face engagement; 5 hours tutorial, 5 hours application, 12 hours practicum; 12 hours peer practicum sessions.

Skill Demonstration - Assessment in the Room OR Critical Review

Assessment in the Room: A. Supervision in the room 30% (equiv 1500) Student practitioners will be assessed in real time as they take up their role as a professional supervisor. Student-to-student critique is integrated into this task. B. Critical Reflection 15% (write 1000) Students will critically reflect on one specific issue that was brought to their attention throughout the assessment-in-the-room experience.

Critical Review: 45% (2500 words) Students will design and undertake a critical review of the role and experience of professional supervisor.
