This unit has a focus on an advanced understanding of human encounter through critical reflection and reflexive practice. Trauma, the issues of culture in its many meanings, diversity in its many forms, power in the supervisory relationship, and other power dynamics (e.g., institutional) are explored to enable effective supervision. This unit requires each student to log 10 hours as a supervisor in training. Each student will receive 3 hours of supervision provided by a UD recommended Professional Supervisor.

Pedagogy

All teaching material pre-recorded. Students to engage with material before class. 22 hours face to face engagement: 4 hours tutorial, 4 hours application, 12 hours practicum; 12 hours peer practicum sessions.

Skill Demonstration - Assessment in the Room

Assessment in the Room: A. Supervision in the room 30% (equiv 1500) Student practitioners will be assessed in real time as they take up their role as a professional supervisor. Student-to-student critique is integrated into this task. B. Critical Reflection 15% (write 1000) Students will critically reflect on one specific issue that was brought to their attention throughout the assessment-in-the-room experience.

Critical Review: 45% (2500 words) Students will design and undertake a critical review of the role and experience of professional supervisor.
