People, Ethics, and Practice in Professional Supervision (PS8012M)

Content

This unit continues and deepens the theory and practice introduced in PS8011M, including reflection upon the nature of Source as it informs values and practice. Supervisory practice is further explored through theoretical and practical sessions including a focus on legal, moral, and ethical issues that may emerge in supervision. Safeguarding and other professional standards, legal and regulatory frameworks, and supervision agreements are specifically addressed and integrated. Psychodynamics and self-care are key elements of the unit. Regular personal reflective practice is recommended to support role-based engagement. Supervision of groups is a focus of the experiential learning. This unit includes 3 hours of individual supervision of the student by a UD recommended Professional Supervisor.

This unit is part of a series of three units required for the Graduate Certificate in Professional Supervision: DP8011M Foundations of Professional Supervision, PS8012M People, Ethics, and Practice in Professional Supervision, PS8013M Inclusion, Power and Culture in Professional Supervision. This unit may be completed before or after PS8013M.

Pedagogy

The pedagogical model for this unit focuses on engagement with theory and best practice, analysis of case studies, critical reflection, peer-to-peer learning, modelling of skills, and supervision practice.
