This unit introduces both the theory and practice of Professional Supervision through theoretical input, class engagement, group work, and supervision practice. Elements include active listening, theological reflection, models of supervision, case studies and evaluation, and developing feedback and intervention skills. Key aspects of psychodynamics in the context of supervision are introduced. Regular personal reflective practice is recommended to support role-based engagement. In this unit supervision of individuals is the focus of the experiential learning practice sessions.

Unit sequence

This unit is the first in a series of three units required for the Graduate Certificate in Professional Supervision: PS8011M Foundations of Professional Supervision, PS8012M People, Ethics, and Practice in Professional Supervision, PS8013M Inclusion, Power and Culture in Professional Supervision. This unit must be completed first.

Pedagogy

Theoretical input, critical reflection, analysis of case studies, modelling of skills, small group work enabling supervision and feedback, supervision practice, guest lecturer presentations.
