The changing nature of Professional Practice introduces complexity of dilemmas for professionals with regards to ethical issues. It is pertinent to understand and act on this comprehension of the interactive relationship of ethics and the law in the areas that relate to the various legislative regulations.

This unit will guide students to explore the ethical dilemmas in relation to law in different areas of the professional and services sector. They will discuss the ethical issues with regards to new knowledge, interventions, roles and responsibilities of the different professionals, agencies and community as well as governments in an ever-changing environment. Students will be introduced to the legal systems, processes and actions and how they impact the delivery services within and through different institutions and agencies. Various topics will be explored with regards to ethical and legal considerations and implications.

Students will be encouraged to develop their own ethical framework based on theoretical and practical topics covered and the tools discussed in this unit to deal with different ethical dilemmas. They will develop knowledge and skills to enable them to analyse different situations and respond to them with strong ethical principles within the legal and legislative frameworks. Unit sequence

This is a core unit in the Graduate Diploma in Leadership and Master of Leadership

Pedagogy

All learning material including video lectures and practitioner interviews are accessible on the Learning Management System asynchronously. The learning material are divided up in six modules with specific topics in each module. Students will need to attend a weekly webinar on a weeknight to engage with the tutor and discuss the learning material and assessments. The students will also need to attend two intensive days on the second and sixth Saturdays of the Teaching Period that will be run as workshops to discuss the topics and engage with supplementary learning material and practical exercises and scenarios relevant to the topics of the unit.

Essay - Major Essay

The student will write a major critical analysis to examine the various ethical issues, standards, triggers, and emerging trends affecting professional practice and conduct in real life situations, based on theoretical concepts and extensive research literature.

Workshop - Presentation & Reflective Report

The student will analyse ethical issues pertaining to specific laws and legislations and during the final Intensive, they will present their findings to their peers explaining their positions based on their thorough research from several perspectives. They will receive feedback during the workshop. They will then gather and incorporate feedback from their peers and the audience and incorporate them in a final reflective report discussing their learning experience from this project.
