Content

This unit builds on Counselling Theories, Processes and Strategies and accompanies the student's professional practice. The unit comprises in-depth knowledge of different forms and developments of cognitive behaviour therapy. Major traditions in cognitive behaviour therapy and current developments are emphasised and drawn from, such as CBT, DBT, Schema Therapy and ACT. The strengths and limitations of cognitive bahavioural therapies are critically examined. Students are given an understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of these therapies as well as learning to apply practical clinical skills in their work with clients and their concerns.

Prerequisites DZ9077S Counselling Theories, Processes and Strategies Co-requisites DP9076S Supervised Counselling Practice Integration (Practicum)

Pedagogy

The unit is delivered concurrently with DZ9076S Supervised Counselling Practice Integration in a series of seminars requiring face-to-face synchronous learning in physical space or non-physical space. Seminars on the cognitive behavioural therapies include lecture material, video demonstrations, small group discussions, and tutorials.
