This unit provides a foundation for offering religious education in schools, parishes and community settings. You will consider your role as a teacher and facilitator of learning, the dialogue between theology and education in various ministry settings, and the distinct language of each discipline. Drawing on principles of curriculum planning and current documentation, you will plan a unit of work or study activity for a small group, reflecting an understanding of the purpose of religious education in different contexts. You will incorporate an understanding of effective pedagogy informed by current literature.

Identify a range of contexts in which religious education might occur and identify the purpose of religious education in these contexts.

Pedagogy

Grounded in critical analysis and collaborative learning, small group and whole class discussion and activities and direct teaching will be employed as teaching and learning strategies.
