In the second-year, students are invited to engage with the history and contemporary contexts of the Church’s missional identity. For many Christian communities, flourishing has meant and still means an active engagement in the formation of its members through an evangelising ethos of mission and service that extends beyond the walls of the Church. But the history of ‘mission’ is contentious and entangled with the Church’s complex interactions with its national and denominational identities. To understand and rethink these complex questions, this unit will draw students into an exploration of what it is for the Church to be missional in the twenty-first century.

This unit fosters a collaborative peer learning environment in which students are encouraged to engage in constructivist and experiential approaches to learning. It will facilitate the development of reflective practice to support the integration of learning.
