The enduring scandal of Christian affirmation, that God became flesh, poses theological, philosophical, and existential challenges that every generation of Christian belief must engage. This unit examines in depth the core theological distinctives of the Christian faith—the incarnation of God in Christ and God’s triunity. Attention will be given to both the historical developments of these affirmations and to their ongoing reinterpretation and rearticulation in multiple contexts.

This unit requires two units in systematic theology at a foundation level.

Pedagogy

Direct instruction, provocation, and self-directed learning approach to learning discipline-specific skills (demonstrating an understanding of concepts in theology, reading, and reflecting on a range of theologians, and engaging in the process of re-constructing theology for the contemporary context, and classroom dialogues) through lectures, tutorials with targeted learning activities, and formative and summative assessment tasks.
