LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Identify the theological rationale given for the closure of monasteries in the sixteenth century;

Explore the perception of a vowed, monastic life as an ideal state for late medieval women;

Critically interpret primary and secondary sources and use them appropriately;

Construct a coherent historical argument, using the accepted conventions of the discipline of history;

Draw upon present‐day understandings of gender in the reading of primary source texts.

MEETINGS: Fortnightly one‐hour meetings

ASSESSMENT: 1 x 5,000 word essay
