The European Reformations of the sixteenth century were fundamental influences on the shaping of modern Western Christianity. This unit will examine ways in which English Christianity was influenced by the religious changes of this period. While attending to other forms of English Christianity, the unit will particularly explore how the predominant form of English Christianity in the sixteenth Century - the established Church of England - was shaped through a long Reformation from the 1530s to 1662. The unit will explore ways in which English Christianity in this period was influenced by continental religious developments, as well as by political and cultural developments in the period.
