Following the words of Jesus, recorded in John 5:39, that Scriptures speak about Him, this Unit will explore the place of Scriptures in the Orthodox Tradition. Since the Orthodox Tradition has always been patristic, this Unit will focus on the principles of the Patristic hermeneutics, exploring Homiletic, Ascetic, Liturgical, and Iconographic Exegesis of the Holy Scriptures. Students will consider on the following questions as a framework for learning: What is the position of the Scripture in the Orthodox Tradition? Is there an Orthodox exegesis of the Scripture? What is the place of the Scriptures in the Spiritual life of a believer?
