Content

The reading methodology of the early church often appears confusing and disjointed. This unit aims to dispel some of the confusion about the ways in which the early church read scripture. Students will start by examining the ways in which earlier readings of scripture occurred in the intertestamental period, and then move to explore the early church’s examination of the Hebrew Bible. Finally, students will review the ways in which modern reading methodologies intersect with those of the early church.
