This unit is designed to ground students in the biblical story as a basis for understanding Christian faith and for deeper engagement with the Hebrew bible. Students will be introduced to the narrative and literary character of the Hebrew bible together with historical, cultural and social contexts, and significant theological themes.

Learning outcomes

1.

Outline the biblical narrative as literature giving attention to its historical, social and cultural contexts and theological intent.
2.

Evaluate key content and major themes that form the basis of the Hebrew bible, and where selected themes have a trajectory into the New Testament.
3.

Construct interpretive arguments based upon a range of introductory secondary literature in the study of the Hebrew Bible.
4.

Formulate insights from their study and apply them to Christian life and ministry within their particular context.

Pedagogy

Students will complete workbooks which are keyed to readings and other learning materials. They will complete questions and learning activities and attend structured synchronous online engagement sessions.
