Through lectures and the detailed examination of selected Hebrew texts the student is introduced to the basic morphology and syntax of biblical Hebrew (SBH). A select vocabulary is to be acquired.

Demonstrate an understanding of the key grammatical elements of biblical Hebrew. In particular the “regular” paradigms

Demonstrate command of a core of frequently used vocabulary

Give an English equivalent of select passages (principally prose narrative) from the Old Testament with and without the aid of lexicons

Apply their knowledge of Hebrew to the exegesis of passages in the Old Testament

Apply their knowledge of available resources to the examination of problems of syntax and morphology in Hebrew

Demonstrate the capacity for self-directed research in a given topic in Hebrew language study.
