Week one: General introduction to the Gospel of Mark, Authorship, Audience, Structure, Genre, Mark in relation to Matthew and Luke.

Week two: Two proclamations—The beginning of John the Baptist's ministry, and the ministry of Jesus (Mark 1:1-20).

Week three: Jesus the teacher, the healer, the exorcist; particular literary forms in Mark—summaries, call story, exorcism, healing stories, apocalyptic (Mark 1:21—2:17).

Week four: The Twelve/disciples; controversies/Religious Authorities/Pronouncement Stories/ Emergence of the shadow of the Cross (2:18—3:35).

Week five: Jesus' parables in Mark's Gospel (4:1-34).

Week six: Mighty deeds; Literary forms cont.: intercalation/sandwich; mighty deeds/miracles (4:35—5:43).

Week seven: Double tragedy: Jesus is rejected; John is killed. But who is Jesus for the community? Peter's declaration/Messianic Secret (6:1—8:30).

Week eight: Christology 1: Titles of Jesus in Mark 1—8; who is Jesus for the community? Christology 2: Mystery of a Suffering Messiah/Messianic Secret cont. (9:2-13).

Week nine: Discipleship and the Cross; Passion predictions, misunderstandings, particular teaching on discipleship (8:31—10:52).

Week ten: Jesus in Jerusalem; Eschatology and Apocalypticism and Discipleship (11:1—13:37).

Week eleven: Passion Narrative 1: From the plot to the arrest (14:1—52)

Week twelve: Passion Narrative 2: Judgment, death; and the resurrection (14:53—16:8).
