In this unit, students will undertake a capstone learning experience that includes personal study, collaborative enquiry, and reflective practice. This unit investigates and evaluates insights aimed at improving the quality and effectiveness of teacher professional development in Religious Education. A focus of this unit will be to articulate key features of a professional learning framework suited to enhancing teacher capacity in Religious Education. Students will demonstrate advanced and well-integrated knowledge and skills within the disciplines of education, theology and religious pedagogy, with application to their school context.

Learning outcomes

Identify and explain key features of in-service teacher professional development, according to contemporary standards of excellent practice

Distinguish and analyse dimensions of professional learning for teachers particularly relevant to Religious Education

Design a framework of evidence-informed criteria for enhancing teacher capacity in Religious Education through personal research and collaborative enquiry

Use advanced academic skills to construct an integrated presentation of the learning outcomes above, using methodologies and scholarship appropriate to the disciplines of education, theology and religious pedagogy.

May only be taken in the final two semesters of a Master of Education and Theology course

Pedagogy

The capstone learning experience requires students to undertake self-directed, peer-engaged learning with the support of a supervisor. It will include integration of relevant disciplines with an orientation towards improving school practice.
