This unit consists of lectures, tutorials, guided reading and supervised personal study that integrate key concepts of the scriptural, doctrinal, moral and liturgical dimensions of the Catholic tradition, to enable students to present a written account of the Church’s faith and its implications for ministry in contemporary settings. Students participate in a series of lectures and tutorials which include synthetic presentations of various theological themes. Students work under the direction of an individual supervisor in the preparation of a major integrative essay.

Learning outcomes

1.

Integrate key aspects of their learning across a number of theological fields in order to address a particular topic or theme.

Identify and critically assess the ways in which the methodologies and concepts in areas such as philosophy, systematic theology, biblical studies, moral theology, church history and pastoral studies contribute to their chosen topic.
3.

Use primary and secondary resources (print, electronic) accurately and in keeping with academic practice.
4.

Apply their integrated theological understandings to practical workplace/ministry scenarios
5.

Plan and produce a major essay demonstrating high levels of academic practice, integrative insight and pastoral application.

Unit sequence

May only be taken in the final two semesters of the Bachelor of Theology, Bachelor of Ministry or the combined Bachelor of Theology and Bachelor of Ministry degrees

Pedagogy

This Capstone Unit encourages students to undertake self-directed, peer-engaged and integrative study. A variety of learning resources – lectures, tutorials, guided reading, regular formative feedback on assessment tasks and supervisory support – will enable students to achieve the learning outcomes of the unit.
