Supervised Theological Field Education (DP2906T)

Content

Students will engaged in a planned program of activities within a supervised ministry context. The practice of ministry will provide opportunity for reflection on spiritual, personal and vocational identity. Critical and reflective analysis will provide an important basis for generating development of ministry competencies. Professional ministry standards including safeguarding underpin this unit. This is a Supervised Theological Field Education Unit.

Unit sequence

This unit must not be undertaken as a sole first unit of study. The student must be actively engaged in a ministry context. Completion of at least the equivalent of one year of theological study. Students will have undertaken a learning module on the unversity’s Code of Conduct, and satisfied the training criteria for safe ministry required by their denomination before commencement of this module.

Pedagogy

Students undertake a field placement in a ministry setting. Students negotiate and evaluate the field placement through a Supervised Theological Field Education Coordinator. The Coordinator will facilitate orientation and end of placement review seminars, and individual meetings with students throughout the placement. While on placement students attend regular meetings with an accredited Placement Supervisor and with a field committee as appropriate and engage in a peer group process for theological reflection.
