The first section of this unit consists of an examination of the book of Psalms as a whole and then individual representative Psalms. The second section consists of an examination of selected wisdom texts from the Old Testament. Both sections demonstrate the application of major methodologies associated with the exposition of this literature.

Learning outcomes

1.

Undertake independent research on texts of the type under discussion at an advanced level.

Demonstrate an understanding and ability to apply a wide range of standard biblical methodologies.

Identify interpretative ambiguities associated with an examination of the texts being examined.

Present the results of a wide range of research on given biblical texts in the corpus under study.

Develop strategies for the public presentation of the type of texts under discussion.

Pedagogy

Each three hours consists of two hours of interactive lectures and one hour of report (in each case, presented in modes appropriate for face-to-face or online learning contexts).
